Trained Beauty Professionals are Still in Demand
March ’09
In these problematic economic times (Feb. 2009 U.S. unemployment rate – 8.1%), as well as the high tuition costs in the college/university segment of higher education, today’s college-age students are turning away from the general education offered by traditional four-year colleges and opting for the more specialized, career-focused and accelerated training found in career, vocational and technical schools and colleges.

- Cosmetology school educator
- Esthetician
- Hair color specialist
- Makeup artist
- Nail artist
- Salon owner/manager
- Spa owner/manager
A Rewarding Career Choice
According to American Association of Cosmetology Schools (AACS) Executive Director, Jim Cox, those who are considering a career in cosmetology and those who advise them should understand the potential of a career in this field.
Workers in the field of Cosmetology Arts and Science have amazing success potential, limited only by their commitment and hard work. The U.S. Department of Labor predicted cosmetology jobs to increase by about 20 percent between 2008 and 2018, much faster than average* for other jobs. The state of California has one of the highest employment levels for cosmetologists in the entire country, with an average mean wage of $26,000.
