Esthetics Graduate Finds Success Through Salon Success
Jessica McKeever has been busy building a name for herself in the skin care industry since she graduated from Salon Success Academy in 2009. She’s worked as a medical esthetician, as a waxing educator, and now runs her own business. All of these experiences have taught Jessica a thing or two about the beauty industry. She has great advice for those interested in pursuing a career as an esthetician.
Jessica was working in a marketing position at the Chamber of Commerce, but wasn’t enjoying herself. She knew the beauty industry was growing despite the economic recession, so she decided to follow her heart and pursue a career in skin care. She researched her options online before coming in for a tour of the Salon Success Academy Upland Campus. She fell in love with what she saw.
“I got very advanced training at Salon Success. I was learning things that I was actually using once I started working in the field, like performing chemical peels and using professional products. I knew I was getting what I paid for,” Jessica said.
Jessica made sure to take advantage of any and every opportunity that came her way while she was still enrolled at Salon Success Academy. She started an externship at Visage Medical Spa, working at the reception desk two days a week.
“I wanted to get my foot in the door while I was still a student. It was great because I was learning about the medical aspect of the industry and bettering my chances on getting hired after graduation,” she said.
Her hard work paid off! Jessica was hired as a full-time medical esthetician at the spa once she graduated and passed the State Board exam. After one year, Jessica felt ready to branch out on her own as an independent contractor. She rented a room at a salon in Upland and started marketing her services and building her clientele. She now works out of a room in her home and has a steady stream of clients.
Another opportunity presented itself to Jessica when she enrolled in an advanced Brazilian waxing class. The class was taught by a Satin Smooth educator, a product line she was familiar with because she had used their products in the esthetician room at Salon Success.
“I was just as educated as the instructor because of the great training I got at Salon Success. I knew I was qualified to be an educator, so I applied online and was hired right away,” she said.
Jessica now travels around the west coast teaching advanced waxing classes for Satin Smooth. Recently Jessica worked at the Las Vegas International Beauty Show, where she was giving live demonstrations on the Satin Smooth products.
