Salon Success Students Show Their SuperStyle Skills

June ’11

Four campuses of Salon Success Academies were represented by four of its most talented students at the Southern California Supercuts SuperStyle event on May 15. An animated group of students and staff from Salon Success came to the event wearing t-shirts and waving signs to show their support for their classmates. Also at the event, Salon Success Instructor Dona Tottress-Moss was honored with the 2011 Ultimate Teacher Award.

Students from 23 schools participated in school competitions to determine who would go on to compete in the big Supercuts event. At the big event each stylist had to give their model a look from the 1970’s, to go along with the Disco theme.

The competitors from Salon Success were: Diego Moreno, representing the San Bernardino campus, Dina Calabrese, from the Redlands campus, Heather Barnes, a student at the Upland campus, and Jesus Soria, from the Corona campus.

The large crowd of supporters from Salon Success were cheering and dancing in the crowd to get their classmates energized for the competition. Diego, the San Bernardino Campus Stylist winner, lip-synced and danced while he was on stage working on his model. Soon he had the whole crowd singing along.

“It was so fun to see the students on stage showcasing their true talent and love for the industry outside of the classroom,” Salon Success Vice President Susan Turner said.

Although none of Salon Success stylists placed in the competition, everyone who attended had a great time and was inspired by the creativity of the event.

After the competition, over 300 teachers gathered at a special teacher’s luncheon where Supercuts honored three cosmetology instructors who have made a difference in the lives of their students. Salon Success Academy Instructor Dona Tottress-Moss was one of the three recipients of the 2011 Ultimate Teacher Award.
