Contest Winner Gives Thanks to Her Family
December ’14
Julie H. was the grand prize winner in our “Give Holiday Thanks” essay contest. She won an iPad by sharing her story of the challenges that have faced her and the people who have supported her as she has attended beauty school at Salon Success Academy.
According to Julie, her time at Salon Success Academy hasn’t always been easy as she has struggled with car troubles, reliable childcare, pregnancy complications and financial setbacks. She even had to take some time off from school to help her family. At one point, Julie said that “it felt like I was never going to finish school and have my dream career.” But her family helped and encouraged her along the way.
“My husband has supported me financially and emotionally through this difficult journey through school,” wrote Julie. She also noted that if her sister hadn’t made herself available to watch her boys while Julie attended school, she probably wouldn’t have made it as far as she has.
“If it wasn’t for my husband and my sister I wouldn’t be able to be here today following my dream,” wrote Julie.
The whole contest was a great success. More than 900 votes were cast for the students and graduates of Salon Success Academy who celebrated the holiday season by giving thanks for the people in their lives through their essays. In addition to Julie, top-vote-getters from each campus received honorable mentions and a $25 Target gift card.
Honorable mention recipients were:
- Heather K., Upland Campus Graduate
- Justine P., Corona Campus Graduate
- Victor N., San Bernardino Campus Student
- Jennifer L., Fontana Campus Student
- Dominica N., Redlands Campus Student
- Victoria G., Upland Campus Student
- Tiffanie S., Corona Campus Student

Celebrating the Season in Ugly Style
Students at Salon Success Academy also got into the holiday spirit by celebrating Ugly Sweater Day. At the Upland Night Contest, students made themselves up to look just like their favorite holiday characters.
