Fall is Full of Fun for New Salon Success Students

August ’11

Fall classes will soon be underway at Salon Success Academies! We’re excited to reunite with the returning students and also welcome all of the new students in to the Salon Success family. If you still haven’t signed up for fall classes, remember you have until Friday, September 2 to enroll.

Classes start on Monday, September 12. For the new Salon Success students, this day will be spent at the “Starting Smart” orientation at the Uplands Campus, from 10 a.m. to 3 p.m. This is a great opportunity for the new students to become acquainted with the Campus Director, staff, and student ambassadors from their campus.

During the first day of orientation, new students will be treated to demonstrations from Salon Centrics and Matrix. This will teach them more about the beauty products they’ll be using at Salon Success and they’ll even get some samples to bring home and try out. The students will also hear from beauty industry veteran George Miller. He’ll share his advice and expertise about the beauty industry and explain the 3-day professional development class he’ll later be teaching.

We save the most exciting part for the end of the day, when new students will receive their student kits. This kit includes everything they’ll be using during their time at Salon Success Academies – tools, text books, and their student uniform. This will also be the first time they’ll “meet” their first client – the Pivot Point mannequin head.

On Tuesday, the fun continues for the new students with their first day at their own campus. They’ll get to meet their new classmates and learn about how the campus salon is run. They’ll also get to see firsthand what’s it like to work on the clinic floor, because next they’ll be treated to a day of beauty by the Senior students! They’ll get the full treatment – haircuts, hair color, manicures, and facials.

Fall is an exciting time for everyone at Salon Success, but especially our new students. This two-day orientation is a great chance for new students to meet their classmates, get some free goodies, and enjoy being pampered. Good luck to all the of the Salon Success students!

Salon Success Announces its Newest Student Ambassadors

Salon Success Student Ambassadors are an important part of everything we do here at Salon Success. We consider these outstanding students to be the leaders at each of our five Salon Success Academies campuses. They help out with new student orientations, mentor new students, attend industry hair shows, organize charity events, and represent our school in the local community.

The Ambassadors change on a regular basis, as older students graduate and new students begin classes. Students apply to become Student Ambassadors and are chosen based on specific criteria and interviews.

Redlands Student Ambassadors Step Up in Time of Tragedy

Coffee and Donut Sale Fundraiser at the Redlands CampusSalon Success Ambassadors are required to represent the school in the local community and participate in charitable events. The Ambassadors from the Redlands Campus went above and beyond when they took it upon themselves to organize fundraisers to benefit the victims’ families in the wake of two recent tragedies.

Ricardo Gilberto LizarragaOn June 30, 15 year-old Ricardo Gilberto Lizarraga was riding his bike along Sierra Avenue in Fontana when he was struck and killed by a train. The Student Ambassadors organized a fundraiser to raise money for Ricardo’s funeral expenses. The students sold baked good and iced coffee to raise over $300 for the family. When Ricardo’s mother came to the school, they presented her with a sympathy card with the check inside.

Nick VarnerOn July 17, tragedy struck again, when 11 year-old Nick Varner was injured while racing his dirtbike at the Glen Helen Raceway. He was airlifted to the hospital, where he later died. Nick was the nephew of Joey Beltran, a graduate of Salon Success.

Once again, Salon Success Ambassadors rallied together to raise money for Nick’s funeral expenses. By organizing a bake sale and displaying a donation jar at the front desk, they were able to raise $400 for Nick’s family.

“When our students hear about a tragedy in our community, they always come together and try to help the person who is suffering. They’re doing an excellent job,” Redlands Campus Instructor Ms. Julia said.

Salon Success would like to offer our deepest condolences to both of the victims’ families.
