Mother’s Day is just around the corner, but this year you’ll have to cancel the spa day, forget about that shopping spree at the mall, or trip to the movie theater. Whatever special outing you had planned will now need to be done inside, but that won’t stop you. Here’s how to pamper your mom on Mother’s Day.
Make Your Mom Breakfast in Bed
There’s no better way to kick off Mother’s Day than with a surprise breakfast in bed. Make her favorite pancakes or waffles or try something fancy like stuffed French toast or Eggs Benedict. And what about a special beverage? Can you say Mimosa? For a no-alcohol approach, use orange juice and sparkling water. You’ll get the fizz without the buzz. And present your special treat with some fresh flowers. Now, that’s treating mom like magnificent woman she is!
Make DIY Facials
If you can’t take mom to the spa, bring the spa to her! You can make DIY face masks with ingredients from your kitchen. Avocado, honey, egg whites, and yogurt are just a few common foods that can double as spa essentials. Whip together a face mask using honey, cocoa powder, and avocado. Just mash a quarter of the avocado with one teaspoon of honey and one teaspoon of cocoa powder and apply to mom’s face. Leave it on for 10 minutes, then wash it off with warm water. The best part is, you can indulge a little too.
Give Your Mom a Mani-Pedi
Is there anything more relaxing than a luxurious mani-pedi? Give one to mom—at home. Start with a soothing foot bath. Set up a cushy chair at the bathtub’s edge or use a small wash bucket. Pour some Epsom salts into warm water and add some essential oils like peppermint or lavender. Ah, a bit of aromatherapy. Use a pumice stone or create an easy hand and foot scrub by pouring some sugar over a cut lime and rubbing it over mom’s feet and ankles. It will remove the dead skin, soften up her heels and foot pads, and leave her tired feet feeling rejuvenated.
Next, clip and file her toenails. Gently push back the cuticles. Then, dry her feet and massage her feet, ankles, and calves, using a foot cream or body lotion. Use a little rubbing alcohol on the nails to ensure the polish will adhere properly. When it’s time to paint her nails, you can match a favorite outfit or use bright and cheery spring colors and pastels to fit the season.
Give Your Mom a Makeover
Who doesn’t love to have their hair and makeup done? Even if you’re spending the day on the couch, you can still make mom look and feel good with a makeover. You can dye her hair and even give her a trim (if you have the skills). Curl her hair or give her a blowout. Or, you can do her hair in a French braid or a chignon.
Then, make mom feel glamorous with makeup. If she’s adventurous, try a bold lip or a bright eyeshadow for something new. If she prefers to look natural, keep it simple and stick to skin tones. Cap off the makeover with a nice outfit. You can gift her something new or dig out a dress she hasn’t worn in a while from the back of the closet. Whatever you do for mom, she’s sure to feel special.
