Did you know that your beard doesn’t just look awesome; it can protect your skin and make you look thinner! Your summer beard is also pretty cool—in more ways than one. Here are the top 3 reasons why you still want that beard this summer:
Maybe you haven’t quite achieved your summer beach bod. Don’t worry! Your summer beard can actually help contour your face to make it appear slimmer. Now who wouldn’t want that? You can make your face look longer or wider, depending on how you style your beard. For example, a chinstrap style beard can flatter a square jawline, while a goatee can balance a rounder face, and your basic barely there shadow looks good on just about everyone. Protect Your Skin
Consider your beard your face’s own personal umbrella. Just like how your hair protects your scalp from the sun’s harsh rays, your beard protects some of the skin on your face. A study by professors at The University of Queensland found that beards can protect you from 90 to 95 percent of the sun’s harmful UV rays. But no matter how thick your beard is, you should still apply sunscreen to help prevent skin cancer. Even on the cloudiest of days, your skin can burn.
While most people think that a beard will make you hotter, it is in fact insulating your skin –cooling you off. Just think, when the sun is out your hair is actually shading your skin. Better yet, when sweat gets trapped in your beard, it serves as a natural cooling system. That sweat-shade combo can cool you while you’re looking pretty cool in a summer stylin’ beard. But unless long beards are your “thing,” you’re going to want to trim your beard down for the summer elements. The goal is for your beard and your hair to seamlessly blend. That means if your hair is cut short enough that it shows some skin, your beard also needs to be thinned out.
