Your eyes are the windows to your soul, so highlight them with some fabulous eyelashes. Whether you choose professionally applied fake lashes or decide to create long voluminous lashes at home, here is the how-to breakdown:
Start with your eyeliner. Choose a color that’s slightly darker than your natural eyelash color. Line as close to the base of your lashes as possible. The goal is to use the eyeliner to create the illusion of thicker lashes. If your eyeliner pencil is too chunky, try a very thin tipped brush. You can also subtly extend the line at the outer corners of your eyes to create a “cat eye.” This is another trick that makes your eyelashes appear longer.
Start with clean/clear lashes-no makeup from last night allowed! Then use eyelash primer that helps to enhance, lengthen, moisturize, and condition your lashes. Choose ophthalmologist-tested primers made from organic ingredients. Apply before your mascara.
No one wants flat lashes. Use an eyelash curler to give your lashes an instant boost. Place the curler at the base of your lashes and clamp down for 10-15 seconds. Be careful not to pull the curler when it is clamped down because it will pull out your lashes. Ouch! For extra length, lightly heat your eyelash curler with your hair dryer. The heat will make your eyelashes more pliable and help to keep the curl.
Lather and Layer
The key to mile high lashes is how you apply your mascara. To start, work on the base of your lashes, and then slowly work your way up to the tip, wiggling the wand as you go. Make sure every lash gets evenly coated and apply as many layers as you can without making your lashes looking clumpy. Some people prefer to start at the outside corner of the eye, some start in the middle. Wherever you start, make sure not to clump it on. Clumpiness can result when you gob on too much mascara at a time or when your product is past its shelf life.
If you’re still not getting the results you want, maybe it’s time to opt for fake lashes. You can find them where you buy your mascara and eyeliner and apply at home. Or you can go all-out for that special occasion and get the ultimate look from professionally applied fake eyelashes. The process is time-consuming and costly. It can take up to two hours because each lash is applied individually. And it can cost hundreds of dollars.
