5 Fun and Easy Nail Styles for Work and Play

fun easy nails

Your workplace dress code may require you to conform to a professional look that doesn’t always leave a lot of room for creativity. But if you like to have fun with fashion and beauty, there are subtle actions you can do—such as sport a fresh manicure—that allow you to express your style and still comply with company rules. If you want to punch up your professional look, here are some fun and easy nail styles that are simple enough for work but cute enough for play.

Freshen Up the French Manicure

Sure, you could stick with the classic French manicure. It’s conservative but classy, and certainly appropriate for the workplace. But it can also get a little boring. Freshen up the French manicure with a new color. Keep it subtle with a pink base and white tip. Or, if your workplace allows, choose a brighter shade of pink or a matte black. Or a real pop of color on your tips. You can even do a double tip with two lines of color instead of one.

Sparkle and Shine

Add a little sparkle to your day with a pinch of glitter on your nails. You can layer a glitter polish on top of a neutral shade, or you can swipe some on top of your naked nails. You could also dip the tips of your nails in glitter for an extra twist on the French manicure. Or, reverse the look with a thin glitter base and a neutral nail. What colors will you rock? Pink, purple? Or black and silver? Match your style, your outfit, or company colors. Don’t be afraid to bedazzle your nails, too!

Polka Dots

Polka dots are adorable and an easy way to add a touch of color to your nails. Just dip the end of a toothpick or a paperclip into the nail polish and dot the color onto your nails. Keep the background nude and choose a light color for the dots for a more conservative look. If your dress code is more relaxed, use bright, fun colors for the dots. You could also use complimentary colors, such as black and white or red and pink, for the background shade and dots.

Two-Toned Color

You can always paint your nails the old-fashioned way—one color on each nail, all nails the same color. But where’s the fun in that? Use a piece of tape to divide your nails in half, either vertically, horizontally, or diagonally. Paint the exposed side with one color. Remove the tape once the polish dries. Then, paint the other side of your nail with another color. You may want to keep the shades neutral for work.

Thin Stripes

Grab the tape again and cover your nails to where only thin strips show. Color them in, let them dry, and remove the tape. You can also freehand it, if you can paint in a straight line with both hands. Create vertical, horizontal, or diagonal lines, or a mix of all three.
